Examiners

What is a Forensic Document Examiner?
A Forensic Document Examiner is a forensic scientist who scientifically studies various physical details and elements of documents in order to identify their source or to determine their authenticity or integrity. Forensic document examiners, or FDE’s, help lawyers by examining and offering written opinions on a variety of disputed document problems. Lawyers benefit also from an FDE’s specialized knowledge of literature in the questioned document field. This knowledge will assist lawyers in preparing meaningful direct examination questions for their own experts and cross-examination questions for opposing experts.

Please note: If you wish to have handwriting examined, know that there are persons who consult that may be trained in graphology or certified by or affiliated with groups that are outside the mainstream forensic organizations. A Forensic Document Examiner should not be confused with a graphologist or anyone who practices in graphology.
